More than 600 meeting participants, guests and exhibitors gathered May 16 - 19, 2018, in Biloxi, Mississippi for the 81st Mississippi Credit Union Association (MSCUA) Annual Meeting, Convention and Trade Show!

Elections

At the Annual Business Meeting held Thursday, May 17, 2018, four MSCUA directors were elected to a three-year term:

Six Inducted into Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame

Induction into the MS Credit Union Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual within our state.  Individuals must be nominated for Hall of Fame induction consideration.  Credit unions are encouraged to recognize deserving individuals with a Hall of Fame nomination.  Nomination forms are available at http://www.mscua.com/initiatives/awards-recognition.

Awards & Recognition
The Mississippi Credit Union Association was proud to recognize credit unions and individuals for their achievements: 

Recognized for being nominated to the Mississippi Credit Union Hall of Fame were:

  • Victoria Diabin, Central Sunbelt Federal Credit Union
  • Robert Harry, Navigator Credit Union
  • Kaye Ray, Central Sunbelt Federal Credit Union
  • Thomas Williams, Central Sunbelt Federal Credit Union

MSCUA service anniversary recognition included:

  • Cheryl Oggs, CLE, CCUE, BSACS, Vice President, was recognized for 10 years of service.

Credit unions recognized for milestone anniversaries included:

  • Ferguson Federal Credit Union was recognized for 50 years of service.  The credit union is headquartered in Monticello, has $76 million in assets, and serves more than 7,000 members.
  • Junior College Federal Credit Union was recognized for 50 years of service.  The credit union is located in Perkinston, has assets of $1.6 million and serves 600 members.

Credit Unions Praised for Advocacy Efforts
Credit unions were recognized for their efforts to actively promote and advocate on behalf of credit unions and for their efforts to support credit union advocacy initiatives.  There are five initiatives in the Mississippi Credit Union Advocacy Award Program:

  • Meet the credit union’s CULAC goal
  • Participate in payroll deduction designed for credit union employees
  • Designate a key contact with a state or federal lawmaker
  • Participate in Project Zip Code
  • Tell the Credit Union Story to lawmakers

Credit unions completing all five of the initiatives received a Magnolia Advocacy Award:

Credit unions recognized for achieving a Delta Advocacy Award, which signifies the credit union completed three of the five initiatives, were:

  • Members Exchange CU
  • Mississippi DHS FCU

CULAC Payroll Deduction
During the Advocacy Appreciation luncheon, credit unions & their staff were recognized for their participation in the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) Payroll Deduction Program for credit union employees. During 2017, 473 Mississippi credit union employees participated in the PRD program at their credit union, with an average monthly donation of $5.72 per month.  The CULAC PRD program accounts for 87% of the total contributions from Mississippi.

Mississippi Managers Association Elects Officers
The Mississippi Managers Association (MMA) provides credit union leaders a platform to share information about the experiences, challenges and triumphs faced in managing a credit union.  It is a “support group,” designed by and fueled by credit union professionals. At their Annual Business Meeting held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, following their professional development seminar, the Mississippi Managers Association elected their officers for 2018:
